Goofed up on the last post. heres the rest.

Gross valve lift      intake  .528      exh. .536

Duration @ .020 tappet lift   int. 264      exh  268

valve timing   open  int. 7btdc    close  47 atdc

open exh. 49 bbdc   close 9 atdc

Specs are for cam installed 110.0 intake centerline

Duration @ .050   int.  234      exh. 238

Lobe lift             int.  .3300     exh.  .3350

Lobe separation 110.0

Looking for a good street cam. Low end power. Idles under a grand. The car is a 57 Ford 292 (1960 engine) Offenhauser Tri-Power (not my choice, came with the car), 113 heads, Reds headers 3sp manual ( probably go to a 4sp) and a 3.55 axle. Any ideas on the spacers and a new cam? Sorry about the goof-up. Not having a good day on this thing.

Low,

Thats a lot of cam. I'd think hard about dialing it back to something in the mid 220 degree range for the street. I like 10 degrees or so more exhaust duration on unported heads and mufflers. You might try to get a consensus on that one from other members.

Lowrider:

This has been mentioned before.  Get all the advice from friends and forums, but bottom line, when you pick a cam manufacturer, tell him what you have, what your intended use is, answer all his questions truthfully, and let him recommend the grind.  He wants you to be happy with his cam, and he won't steer you wrong.

Those #s are close to what we run in Charlies race truck and it wont idle for anything below 1600 rpm.  Cool

Your sure right about that Tim. Try to make it idle below a grand and would only pull 5in vacuum. My more pressing issue is the spacers behind the cam gear. Does it only take 1 or 2 like I found. Two spacers puts the gears out of alignment and you can watch the cam gear move in and out. Any ideas?

There is only one spacer behind the gear but in front of the gear there are three. (1) the counter weight or just a ring on the later engines. (2) fuel pump eccentric (3) another ring then the bolt and washer.

This should help. Wink

Thanks Tim, thats what I was looking for. I went out and played musical spacers with it and I guessed right. Now I can order a new cam. I think I'm going to go with Mummerts Y270S cam. Looks like a good match. I didn't want to put it together without knowing where everything went. Thanks again.
