Here's a 9 minute video on electric drag racing you might find interesting if you can overlook the trashing on internal combustion engines. I hope this link works.

Let me try this one

Well, I don't know how to get it to work if you just click on it. But if you take the time to type that all in it will take you there.

This has to be what is coming, I guess. It just seems nerdy to me cause nothin's blowing up, yet.

I like it in a way, but I have enough trouble with JUST the wiring on my gas powered car.

In my ignorance, I have to ask too, Aren't Batteries considered to be hazardous disposable waste? I mean it can't all be that perfect? And how much does it cost?

I guess batteries are just a different form of pollution.

It doesn't sound right without the exhaust noise.

The batteries he was using at first are horrible for the environment.  It doesn't billow smoke but 60 batteries is no environment saver.  I don't know how the lithium ion batteries he used at the end are as far as poluion.  And 20-30 minutes to charge is not bad at all.  I'd bet that it is cleaner, overall.  I think it's pretty cool.

Dennis.  Putting a space behind pasted in links before doing a hard return will allow the links to work with most browsers.  I’ve fixed yours.

Al.  You’re right in that there are some trade offs in using electrics instead of internal combustion but in theory, electric energy has more potential for recyling as far as the batteries go.  But there are also the alternative systems where you simply exchange the discharged liquid electrolyte with recharged electrolyte and go on instead of having to recharge on-board batteries.  Sort of like filling up your car with gasoline except you have to drain the tank first.  The discharged electrolyte simply gets recharged again so it can be used again.  I did see an electric road race car that used the roll cage as part of the liquid electrolyte storage system but wearing a battery acid proof suit in one of these would likely be recommended.

When you get ready to convert your ‘Bird over, the weight saved from removing exhaust system, cooling system, gas tank and related lines can help to compensate for the weight generated from the batteries or liquid electrolyte storage system.  And some other upgrades will have to include better braking and a beefed up suspension to help with the extra battery weight.  For that hot rod sound, use computer generated pre-recorded engine sounds through speakers.  But too many amps on that sound system will end up discharging the batteries quicker.

Gee, I don't know what I was thinking, But I've already had and electric bird.

Had a Ford 6v starter with a 12v car battery. A dimmer switch was used for the accelorator. Instant on and off, reverse and forward. Lots of torque off the line, with little leg room. Tongue

come to think of it it would be cool to have a car with just the whine of the motor, like slot cars when i was a kid.

That's pretty cool, but zero emissions?  where does the energy come from to charge the batteries?  Solar?  Coal?  Nuclear?  Tongue
