No, the reference was meant to describe using ASSEMBLY LUBE in the engine before first fire. STP is (was) a quick can of compression and/or low oil pressure correction.

I usually take seller’s product recommendations with a grain of sand. I had to laugh though, when they talk about their lube’s ‘stickability’. Nothing sticks like STP. The damn stuff is nearly impossible to clean off 😁!

I was thinking of using the 50/50 mix of oil & STP I have prepped for assembling the valve train
Just wondering, are you going to use this mixture for cam lobes and followers break-in also? No, just pushrod ends, rocker tips/shafts, etc.

If you're using STP (unless the formula has changed over the years), I hope you're working in a clean, dust-free environment. The stuff is sticky.

Make sure the gears are nice and oiled. Then prime the motor with the drill as you were planning. The oil that's on the gears should seal enough to create a suction that should pull oil from the pick up. I was thinking of using the 50/50 mix of oil & STP I have prepped for assembling the valve train, since would be less likely to run out and make a mess before I actually get the pump installed.

Y-Block book instructs to flood & then turn the gears, but with the motor on a stand upside down, it looks like the oil would just run out. I'm wondering if only lubing the gears would be enough, since I plan to throughly prime the engine with a drill before first start regardless (?). I certainly would like to avoid turning the motor over to install the pump.
