Hi, new member here.
   I am nearing completion on a complete rebuild of my 292.  I am keeping everything as stock as practical. Focusing only on what is relevant to my question:
The block is an EDB-E casting and the heads are ECL-C.
New valves and seats have been installed as well as complete set of “stock” push rods. The push rods are Mummert’s PR-1221-HP, LONG Pushrod for 54-55 and 60-64 heads.
The cam is a new "stock" grind and the lifters are new.  

Now my question:  What is the preferred setting of the valve lash for initial start up and run in?  I have seen numbers from 0.015" to 0.019". Of course, I need numbers for a cold engine.

Usually a cam comes with a card showing the specs and the lash settings. Best practice is usually to follow the specifications unless you know otherwise.

You can't go wrong with .019" cold with both an iron block and heads.  Joe-JDC

Because it is a stock replacement camshaft, the 0.019” valve lash value is a good number.  With all the new parts, you can expect some settling to occur during the break-in process so be sure to check the lash again after the engine has been thoroughly warmed up.

Ted, is .019 hot or cold?

For iron heads, it’s 0.019” hot.  With iron rockers, 0.020” cold usually nets 0.019” hot.
