from what i can see its a 55 meteor base model.these were the same a ford mainline with no side trim.someone in the past added some fairlane trim.

You might have fouled the plugs. Pull one and see. If it’s fouled, pull them all and crank it over when they’re out. Clean, check gap, replace. If you think is been really leaking, you might pull the dipstick and give it the sniff test for gasoline.

Sometimes those rebuild kits come with 2 different needle and seat assembly types. I rebuilt one for a buddy's '59 Apache and used the one that looked like the one I pulled out and it leaked just like before I rebuilt it. I tried swapping in the OTHER style needle and seat and it worked great. Moral of the story is that if you rebuilt it and have options putting it back together, don't assume it was correct when you found it. Good luck. You'll get it.

Note sure about the side trim. As far as I can remember it was like that the last time I took a ride in it and I was 4 in 1975 and it went into storage with a tarp on it since then. It was bought in 1955 here in Alberta Canada and Alberta is known to have its "special" additions that no other province would typically have.

Thanks for that. I did take it apart and blew some air lightly through the system. I can see that it is now not leaking into that gasket area however still having one hell of a time getting it fired over. I will keep at it and bring some knowledge muscle in shortly as well.

I’m with Rob in that the float level and/or the needle seat needs to be revisited. This should be easy to do on the engine as the top of the carburetor simply needs to be removed to check the float level. If that looks okay, then remove the needle seat assembly and check it for a piece of debris that got into it when putting the carburetor back on the engine.

Sounds like the Float / Needle and Seat are letting in too much fuel.

Looking for some wisdom in regards to a rebuilt carb on a 272. 1955 Meteor with 13k original miles on it and things got a bit plugged up. Now that the carb is back on it is shooting way to much fuel out and I have a bit of a show like a night time tractor pull going on when trying to turn it over. The gasket that seperates the top from the bottom gets a bit wet as well. I did get it going a few times but I have to keep the gas pressed full on or it just stops. When it did run it was very low RPM as well. Any insight would be appreciated.
