I'm trying to check the starter that came off my Lincoln 317. I cleaned it up and it turns. I tried to check it using a 12 volt atv battery but it just sparked when I touched the neg to the body of the starter. I hooked the POS to the terminal and touched the neg to the body. It didn't turn. Wondering if the battery just wasn't powerful enough or if I had it reversed since it's positive ground. Any ideas?
