Hi All,

So I have my engine back and the oil pump is on. She will be on a stand for quite awhile so I was hoping to circulate some oil through the passages just to keep things lubed up right before I stuff her. What do you use to turn the oil pump-besides a drill on reverse.

Use an impact drive extension long enough to reach the oil pump drive. 1/4”  I use an old oil pump drive with a 1/4” socket welded to it so the socket won’t come off. DO NOT use socket and extension as thy tend to separate and fall into the oil pan. I could tell how I know.

A speed wrench, if a drill is not an option.

I bought a priming tool years ago, and use it with a 3/8 drill. No chance of loosing a socket and it works on all engines with 1/4 hex drive..

For engine oil priming, I use an old distributor with the gear removed and a nut welded at its top to facilitate using a speed handle with a socket.  With a completely dry oil filter, it only takes approximately 20-25 seconds with the speed handle to have both the filter full and all the oil galleys filled.

I use a speed wrench handle with a 1/4 inch drive 1/4  deep socket, possibly a short extension.  All taped together to make sure it does not come apart.  Counterclockwise.  Usually only takes a minute or two to get oil up top.
