Can't Find Voltage Regulator

We're hooking up all the wires, tubes, linkage, etc. on my '56 Crown Vic after the engine swap.  The generator has 3 wires and we didn't label them.  By referring to schematics, diagrams, etc we think we have it figured it out.  I told my son to confirm the (F) wire by checking the continuity to the center connector on the voltage regulator.  After explaining what one looks like and finding a picture, he said he could not find it.  Neither can I.  

So my question is:  Where in hell is the voltage regulator on a '56.  

Can't I come up with some strange questions?

Tracing the wires is kinda hard to do.  I suppose we could do it if we really needed to know.  We really don't need to know..  I'm just curious.  

I was hoping somebody would remember changing one.

Prolly no help, but the regulator on my '55 Merc was mounted on the inside of the radiator core support, driver's side.

The 56 regulator in on the left fender well. 
If you have the original wires the the small wire that’s black with a white tracer is the “F“field the one in the center. 
The large yellow with the black tracer is the “A”armature on the regulator the one on the left. 
The small red with the black tracer is the ground and is attached to one of the screws that holds the regulator to the fender. 
All can identified with a multi meter and removing them from the regulator one at a time. 
The large yellow wire “Bat” comes from the interior of the car from the light switch.

Use an ohm meter or continuity tester!

Have you looked in the trunk?

Now do you use a multi-meter to find the VR or analyze the charging system?

OK, I found the regulator.  Driver's side on radiator support.  I need to explain that I am handicapped and the car is on jack stands, and I was peering over the front and could not see the engine side of the radiator support..  Sorry for starting a dumb conversation.

HOWEVER:  I now know for sure which are the field and armature wires, but back to confusion as to which are the armature and field posts on the generator.  I found an old illustration, but now I found another and they disagree.

Addendum:  Took a picture of the posts with a cell phone and can see a label of (F) and (A).  They are now all connected.  

Thanks guys..  sorry I wasted your time with this dumb post..
