I see someone is selling a 2 piece neoprene rear seal to replace the familiar rope seal.  According to the description it is far superior to the rope seal.

Any comments guys.

yes, it is superior, just be sure to have your final crank finish of the seal area surfaced for the seal you plan to use.

I have a neoprene seal in my 292 and it works much better than the old rope seal.  Many of the leaks attributed to the real seal come from the side seals.  Ted posted some great comments on this forum about this issue. I took his advice and have been happy with the results.  Here's a link.

I used "The Right Stuff" in place of side Seals with Neoprene Seal. No Leaks a Year Later.

You don’t mention if you are working on a 292 or a 312.  Fel-Pro has had a neoprene rear seal available for the 239/256/272/292 engines since the Sixties.  If you are dealing with a 312, then Best Gasket makes a neoprene rear seal for those engines.  The Best Gasket seal has been on the market on the order of ten years now.  Just be sure you get the black seal and not an 'old stock' orange seal if dealing with a 312.
