RB (8/15/2019) MEL torque over-powered the 9 inch LOLKeith’s ‘560’ roadster has a Ford 8” rear with a 2.78:1 gear. The pinion shaft sheared at the front pinion bearing and even with the rear of the yoke. Keith thought it might have been the pinion angle but I’m thinking it’s just a 55 year old gear set with an unknown history. Looking at the time slip, the break looks to have happened somewhere just prior to the 2¼ mile mark. If the spare 3.00 gears had been brought along, they likely would not have been put in assuming the driveshaft was still straight. It was already Wednesday when the rear broke and with only two days of running left and slippery salt, it was deemed to not have been worth the effort to fix on the salt. Engine sounds good though. For that first run, the jetting was on the rich side just to be safe. I’ll try to post a video later showing the car leaving the starting line.

Here’s the link to the video of Keith’s ‘560’ Bonneville car that I posted on FaceBook. Just give a shout if you cannot access it and I’ll try this differently. Keith Cornell 560 Roadster
