I'm currently at the Bonneville Salt Flats.  Racing has been delayed as the salt is still too wet due to the recent rains.  Officials are talking Monday or Tuesday before the race courses are opened up for racing.  The Rolling Bones '32 Ford with the Y has been retired and replaced with a new car with MEL power.  Keith Cornell is running the C/AIR class this year with M-E-L power.  The MEL has a Mercury 383 crankshaft with 2.200" journals and destroked from 3.3" to 3.120" for a final cubic inch of 371.  Car looks and sounds good.  I'll post a picture of the new car when I get a chance.

Thanks for the salt update and Keith's M-E-L powered roadster.  I sure am looking forward to Tim McMaster and Keith's roadster performances.

One of the reasons Bonneville is so tough, you plan all year and then are at the will of the weather including course conditions. Sounds like from what's said on Landracing.com even the long course will be over at the 4 mile. Looks like the faster cars will be at the end of the week if the course comes around. I still look forward hearing results. Good luck to all the Y-Blockers.....

Here are a couple of pics of the car in the pits.  Keith had just got through with raising the car about 3/4" as it had settled a bit during the trip to the Salt Flats.

Tis a brave man who has green parts on a race car. Even tho I normally run a 6 cylinder I wont use a 6 ball on the shifter because they are green..Man am I supersticious. Good luck C/AIR is a tough class..

anyone one hear any updates on Bonneville?  Did Keith get to run?

I saw on Facebook, I think Tim got one run in, 163mph.  Keith ran but had a driveline failure, input shaft of the rear end.

MEL torque over-powered the 9 inch  LOL

I think it is an 8".  I remember them talking about it at the '18 Y-Block shootout while loading the engine into Ted's truck.  I think the reasoning was that there is some performance advantage to the 8" and for the salt, strength wasn't suppose to be as critical as it would be for street or strip use.  I'm sure someone will confirm or deny that.

Keith’s ‘560’ roadster has a Ford 8” rear with a 2.78:1 gear.  The pinion shaft sheared at the front pinion bearing and even with the rear of the yoke. Keith thought it might have been the pinion angle but I’m thinking it’s just a 55 year old gear set with an unknown history. Looking at the time slip, the break looks to have happened somewhere just prior to the 2¼ mile mark.  If the spare 3.00 gears had been brought along, they likely would not have been put in assuming the driveshaft was still straight. It was already Wednesday when the rear broke and with only two days of running left and slippery salt, it was deemed to not have been worth the effort to fix on the salt.  Engine sounds good though.  For that first run, the jetting was on the rich side just to be safe.  I’ll try to post a video later showing the car leaving the starting line.

Here are pics of Tim McMaster after making a successful run down the course.  That’s quite an accomplishment after watching all the spin outs by the other drivers.

Here’s the link to the video of Keith’s ‘560’ Bonneville car that I posted on FaceBook.  Just give a shout if you cannot access it and I’ll try this differently.
