Just a Heads Up. If U are not using the old Choke Setup in the Manifold there is a Tube inside the Manifold that connects the Fitting on One Side to a Fitting on the other Side. Those Tubes rust out over the Years and will cause a Vacuum Leak if not Plugged on both Ends. I tapped both Sides and screwed a Bolt in to Plug it. You might want to do that and avoid Vacuum Leaks at some Point if not now.

Short answer is yes, but I’d prefer to use a tee. I like checking and tuning with the vacuum advance in the running position. If you unplug the distributor, you’ll find the loss in advance slows the engine down, and you might have to add to the idle speed.
I’d do a search for ported and non ported vacuum. Lots of folks here, including Ted, IIRC, run the ported vacuum to the distributor. I’d try that, retune for it, and take it from there. Or, if you’ve been down that road, use a tee to put the vacuum gauge in.

miker I currently have my distributor plumbed into this port (51), for tuning purposes can i just unplug the dizzy vacuum line and plug in my vacuum gauge?

This is the link to the Edelbrock manual. Down at page 21it shows an diagram. #50 is ported vacuum and 51 is full vacuum. 51 is where I’d hook the vacuum gauge for tuning purposes. If its the full Vacuum Port at Idle you can Tee off that or anywhere in the Line from Carb to Distributor..If there's also a Port which is only active when the Throttle Plate is opened U can use that. Just won't show reading at Idle.
