                i have one of these just went out and had a look.its a 292.i can see enough from the back.the only other it could be is a 223 but its not

                1955,and 56 trucks used a oil cooler ,using water from eng,via water  hoses. at least canadian trucks. recently saw 2. could not see what converter they used. i had a 56 and the cooler was attached  via bracket to trans with steel lines for the oil

                Darrel,  I do not think it's a truck bell,  the side arms are not mounts, they are air discharges from an Air Cooled Ford O Matic convertor.  Air cooled was used prior to mid year 56 in cars.  Not sure without seeing the engine side but it looks Y-Block.    It has some part numbers on it, if the OP could post them I am sure we could get an answer.

 On a second look the bottom "Ears" do look like mounts, post the casting numbers if you can
