Here is some "eyeball" information about the throttle kickdown control linkage - photos are of my 56 T-bird which differs a bit from the sedan. First ...... a diagram of the links you must have to make it work.

You have to have sufficient space under the accelerator pedal to get enough travel to first open the carb throttle - then hit the "over-travel"  slot of the kick down. As the arm travels down the kick down slot, it is then depressing  the rod that drops down onto the transmission lever.

The screwdriver shown in this photo is used to set the links in their "idle" position - no throttle opening beyond idle. So you get the engine operating - warmed and off the choke - then set the length of the throttle rod. You then use the near vertical adjustment rod  down to the bellcrank to set the gas pedal height off the floor. That height is described in the auto trans manual - not the chassis manual. So depressing the pedal first opens up the carb - then makes the kickdown operate the rod that drops to the transmission. On the '56 auto trans that rod is operating a pressure control valve in the transmission. When pressure reaches a set value -  the trans downshifts. When all is at idle, you pull up and adjust the trans kickdown rod to fit onto the pin just above and left of the screw driver in the photo.

The windshield squirter is a single mounted center in the hood 5" from the back edge. There should be a hole in the bracing where the hose went. I believe it's held in with a 1/2" nut on the squirter thru that same hole. Are you going to use the original pedal type actuator and bag?

It may help or the 56 292/312 may differ.

To find all needed info (and how to adjust) you need the 56 FORDOMATIC SHOP MANUAL which should be available reprint.

On the 56 Ford I,m working on, the previous owner had replaced the carburetor.
In doing so, he (or someone) welded up the kick-down assembly  for some reason.
I was able to acquire another one in good shape, but would like to know how the
springs are arranged and how many were supposed to be there?
On the block, where the accelerator mechanism mounts, there is a bracket  with
a hole for a spring, but other than that, I don't see anything.
Would any one have a picture of the springs, or know if they are reproduced?
I can't find much in the service manual. It's a 56 Fairlane with the Teapot 4 bbl carb.
Also, I'm thinking of adding the Windshield washer & would like to know how many
squirter thingies were mounted on the hood?
Thanks so much. Hopefully, I'll live long enough to finish this thing.
Regards
Jim
