I'm in need of some help my car was last run in 78 it has a 312 with a 69 small case fmx with a ford-o-matic front pump.It slips into 3rd so I will be removing it over the winter. Before I redo it I was wondering if there were any better set ups back then you can't do much for converters with the ford-o- matic.I do not what anything that was not available in 78 trying to stay period correct. Thanks

Contact California Performance Transmission tech support 714-901-3777 and ask for Art. He has been racing Ford transmissions since the 50-60's and can definatly guide you and supply a converter to meet your needs. They dyno run every transmission and make their own converters.

Not sure of my ground here, but from your info, it sounds like someone already mated FMX & Fordomatic parts to make a particular transmission coversion. This had been done before for higher performance setups by people such as John Feistritzer, better known years ago as the owner driver of the " Hoozier Hurricane" a very successful 1957 Ford drag car.. With the right combo of parts it makes the  trans into a rugged 3 spd auto.

I think there was an article   "Y NOT A Y-BLOCK" that covered that.

There's actually an Article about this if You check under "Articles" at the Top of Page. Good reading.

- I believe John Mummert Manchine sells a Ford C-4 adaptor setup for Y-Blocks (link from this site) Also there are one or two outfits that do EOD conversions, although it's involved & somewhat costly. One is Gary Croan, Costa Mesa CA,  e mail garycroan@gmail.com or 949-722-1122.

P.S.- Stuey's, previous reference is to info in the Y- Notta Y-Block series of articles in Street Rodder, 1999.. Useful, but unfortunately they are long out of print,  so U would have to find them used
