When I turn on the turn signals they light but don't flash. If I add another bulb inline and touch it to ground the turn signals flash and the spare bulb does too. Do I need to run a ground from the flasher? Or maybe a chasis ground on the instrument panel?

Do you have LED's for lights. If so, you need a flasher designed for LED's as the load is lighter and will not trigger the flasher.
If you don't have LED's, then I would say the flasher is either the wrong one or is going bad.

Didn't think of that. I replaced the turn signal lights with Led's. That's why the spare bulb makes it work. Thanks.

Sorry to drift OT, but how do the LED's work? I've read that a lot of them are pretty directional and don't show up as well from an angle. You happy, and what brand did you use?

I have LED taillights and they aren't as bright as I hoped. The led's I mentioned above are in the gauge cluster in place of the turn signal bulbs. They are great.

I went back through the wiring and installed an LED flasher and wallah, everything is working. I had put LED's in the place of the dash turn signal bulbs and that was why I was having problems. I also noticed that my tail lights are much brighter and the stop and turns. I didn't expect the flasher circuit to effect the tail lights but apparently it does. Happy camper here now!

Good news. So who's LED's did you use in the tail/brake lights, and how are they now from an angle?

Miker, I'll take a look tomorrow for brand. I'm running two bulbs behind some of the fiberglass, single lens Mercury Station Wagon style lights. There is no room for a diffuser so you see the two bulbs. They have plenty of all around light but at a short distance are much more focused to the rear. I'll see if I can get a night shot of them too.

Thanks MoonShadow. Over here in WA, we no longer give a state driving test with the police. All private schools, and merging on the freeway isn't part of the curriculum. So expecting a young driver to see 2 brake lights is a challenge. My last close call last fall was a 1 ton pickup that stopped along side me at a red light. In the oncoming lane, thank God for antilock brakes. Still had the cell phone in her hand.
