Mrmike, according to the 54-55 Mercury chassis parts catalog the exterior sun visor is part number BC 18236 B and BC 18236 C and was available for quite a few models.  I'm sure today it is a very rare accessory.  I wasn't able to find anything in my literature concerning factory connie kits but I personally believe all '54s should have one.  According to the catalog, there were 43 different accessories available in late '54.

Thanks Lanny ! The #1 reason I have Sweet 54 on the plates is because the color is called Bittersweet .  There are a lot of old timers out there that actually know the name of the color.  I might add that my Visor is an NOS Lincoln Mercury accessory.  I had purchased it from a gentleman who owned a 54 Lincoln Premier & it would not fit his car.  It was in the original box.  The Continental kit might also be a Lincoln Mercury accessory as the end pieces are Stainless. Many Merc guys I have talked never saw one like it & think it might be also a LM accessory, but no one seems to know for sure......  Let me know if anyone has any info on the 54 Merc Accessories....

Off the subject of the oil leak, but nice to see the interest here of the beloved 54 Merc , the first year of the Y-block with the Ford having the 239 c.I. & the Merc with the 256 c.I. with `161 hp that won the Great Mexican race. Here are the latest Pic of Mine........  The Chrome on the front of this car is original & not rechromed.  The hood bar looks smudged in the Pic but it is not & shines like the rest !   My Merc was a one owner California car & was completely unmolested when I got it in the year 2000...

A cousin had a 54 just like that, I must have been 14 at the time. He took off from his parents house the sound was great with glass pack mufflers I can still see and hear it going down the road.

Thanks guys,  Yes, I pulled the front guards as they need to go to the chrome shop.  They are the driving lights option and are going to cost a bundle to re-chrome.  I couldn't find any '54 door mirrors so had to settle for the peeps.  I live in north Idaho and it would be fun to have a Merc get together.  I attempted to get enough interest in 2004 ( 50th anniversary) to have a gathering of Sun Valleys in Sun Valley, Idaho but it didn't gel.

Pretty car Lanny, would love to have our 54 Mercs together at a big car show !   I noticed yours is a little custom with the front "bullets" removed & the teardrop spots & vent window mirrors...... Very nice color combo...  Where are you located?     <.Mike

That is real pretty car.
I know of one similar that has been sitting in a shed for about 30 years. Driven in and parked

tthose breathers are hard to stop leaking. only way is remove the complete breather, make sure the cover with no gasket has crush when bolted on, and that the nut is not bent, and is centered. this is so with the new gasket ther is crush, also that the filter element does not hold the cover frome sealing. after this dismant and be sure the drain back tube is clean, and replace the gasket  breather to block
final cure is be sure oil filler cover is clean so the road draft can function, air in top breather  out the road draft. with breather element (road draft) plugged crank case pressure is increased. ,be patent and fix the breathers  properly,no easy way out of henrys not so smart a vent system
