I have read a lot of pinion angles and how to set them. Driveshaft should be close to parellel with engine crankshaft, with minor adjustments for leaf springs vs four link. Ok, with that said, I have never seen side to side pinion angle discussed. Its always up and down. I have a 9" ford rear end going under my 56 Ford F-100 and the pinion/gearbox is not centered in the middle of the axel. 26 1/2" from backing plate on one side and 29" on the other. Engine and transmission are centered side to side. I hope Im not going to have to mount the engine front to rear at an angle to match the offset pinion side to side in the rear? Can someone please explain this?

The engine and rear end don't have to be centered, they can be offset, but they have to have parallel center lines. Same with the rear end pinion angle, it needs to be parallel  to the crank shaft center line. Almost all trucks had the third member offset to on side, cars had them moved over so the drive shaft would be centered in the tunnel.

Oh geze, I get it now. Not sure why that went over my head. Side to side, top to bottom, offset is not the issue, parallel angles both ways is the issue. That's good news! Thanks for drawing me a picture, LOL.
