Driving home tonite in my 292 powered '59 fairlane i seemed to get a couple spots where i totally lost power while cruising. I was probably doing 65 or so in overdrive for 7 miles and it just seemed to stumble out of the blue for 5 or so seconds then pick right up where it left off. It did this twice. No backfires, level ground and i couldnt tell if the accelerator pump made a difference so i couldnt quite diagnose it to my knowledge. Any thoughts? I'm leaning tward the obvious which would be a dead short (it was raining too)but i dont remember the wipers stopping(yes i have electric) and unfortunately i dont currently have dash lights until i get a new headlight switch.

I should add, the previous owner put an electronic ignition in it, so i'm wondering if that could be an issue. I have no idea what kind of module it is running but it appeared some sort of an OEM unit.

Sounds more like a fuel flow interruption if it kept running but stumbling.  At a steady state the needle may have hung up and not let the bowl refill until the stumble shook it enough for the float to drop down and begin refilling the bowl.  JMO, but that would be my first thoughts.  Joe-JDC

I've been having the same issue with my 56 Customline. I'm running dual Edlebrock 1404 carbs. After reading the "Troubleshooting" section I decided to try replacing the accelerator pump pistons. When I lived in Maine (for 4 years) the car sat in a "Car Capsule" for 6 months every year. I think the ethanol did a number on the pumps. I'll see if this fixes the problem.

Hello & Happy Thanksgiving.
A few ideas about "lost power"....since the engine resumes normal running after a few seconds.
Sounds like electrical issue. Shorted ignition or low voltage issue that restores it self. Sounds like you have many electric up grades. Check for poor wiring connections , splices , grounds , chaffed wiring , head light & ignition switch , all can cause shorts & low or lost voltage which can be amplified by rain. Under hood wiring takes a lot of abuse. Check your overdrive kick down switch for issues (exposed to elements). The kick downswitch when depressed cuts out ignition for a few revolutions grounding out coil & dropping out overdrive relay. Overdrive wiring & componets take a lot of abuse under car , exhaust heat ,oil , rain , etc... Power for ignition switch comes from head light switch first. Check for any battery voltage loss at devices which proves poor grounds or power connections. Most solid state electronic ignitions do not restore themselves unless it's a under voltage condition.
A few random thoughts... Good luck.. Mike

Nothing has really been butchered wiring, but i havent seen how they wired around the resistor for the electronic module.
