Well Ted I looked around and no luck , think I'll just install as it is and lube the dizzy end good

Ah ha!!! now the bigger clip makes total sense as the tube is bigger than the clip supplied. Thanks all for the help much appreciated.

The clip should be at the lower end of the distributor drive and close to the oil pump.  If the distributor is stuck hard enough to the hex part of the drive shaft, then the clip can potentially slide off of the shaft while pulling up on the distributor at which point the shaft comes up with the distributor.  I'll also add that the clip supplied with the ARP drive is also too small in diameter and will not hold the shaft in place when relocated to the lower end of the shaft.  The correct clip for the distributor drive should be 5/8" in diameter.  I typically find those clips at the very well stocked hardware stores.  As has been mentioned, ARP has been made aware of this more than once but the problem of the clip being both too small in diameter and placed on the wrong end of the shaft continues.

No, not under normal circumstances.  If it is stuck due to age and rust, for instance, sure you could manage pull it all the way out.

Ok so if stuck to dizzy will lift up far enough to come out of pump with clip on bottom?

Their instructions are wrong.  They have been made aware but do not change it.

The clip prevents the shaft from pulling out with the distributor.

Thank you I had considered that but their printed instruction says install at pointy end which it was half way down the hex. If on the pump end what holds it from sliding out of the pump when you pull the distributor?

The arp shaft comes with the clip installed on the wrong end.  The clip goes on the oil pump end.  The pointed end of the shaft is the distributor end.

It sounds like you just need to adjust the position of the clip.  Also, if the distributor is installed, the shaft may be rotated in relation to the distributor, preventing it from sliding into the distributor.  In that case, turn the pump rotor slightly and try again.
