You can do it for 6 volt as well, just use a 6 volt relay

If you have the original relay just gut it and install a 6 volt headlight relay inside the original case. I did this for my 57 Ford which is of course 12 volt and used a heavy duty headlight relay from my local auto parts store. Think it cost me about 15 dollars , works great and looks original. Step by step instructions with pictures can be found by doing a search on the HAMB.

Fifth Avenue's are new, repopped units, not rebuilt. That said, I got a 12v one from them that lasted about a week. Turns out the high amperage pull-in coil wasn't releasing so it burned up. If you buy one pull the cap and make sure the contacts are adjusted properly.

thanks for the info. I did not know about fifth avenue. i'll try them tomorrow. I spoke with a guy at van pelt earlier today. he said that he doesn't sell rebuilt ones anymore due to problems with the rebuilder. he is going to check a few that he has and if he has a good one I could buy it "as is". I wont know anything from him til maybe Thursday though. I was just trying to get something in my hands before the end of the week. I'm kinda in a time crunch. thanks again! i'll call fifth ave tomorrow. hopefully its not the same story.

I'm looking for a six volt solenoid for the overdrive unit in my 1955 Ford. Mine is bad. Does anyone here have one they'd like to sell? Or know of anybody who sells or rebuilds them? Thanks.
