We are getting ready to pull the medium case Fordo out of our 56 Ranch Wagon for a rebuild. Converting to a C4 is not an option for us at this time and the Fordo shifts fine, just leaks a lot. The 56 Ford Car Shop manual makes it sound pretty easy because the bell housing and torque converter stay in place. The shop manual states in part; "Remove the bolts and lock washers which attach the transmission to the clutch housing, then install two guide pins." What guide pins? Anyone used this technique before? I guess it will allow the input shaft to slide straight back and clear the torque converter without damage. Can you make guide pins out of round stock or just find two long bolts (not sure how long they would need to be) of the correct diameter and cut the heads off for use as guide pins? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rono
