Does anyone have a few extra original 239/256 pushrods they want to sell? I had two that were bent and one that was galled. I replaced them with three new Elgin 292 pushrods although I noticed that the length was slightly different. They worked but all three are not oiling down the pushrods for some reason although there is oil to each of those rockers and the other five original pushrods on that side are oiling. Thanks, Alan S. Freeman

Like Carl, I have a multitude of used pushrods but need to know what length pushrods you need. If Carl cannot provide what you need, then I probably can. I’m assuming you are addressing the oiling problem at the rockers before adding any more pushrods?

Ted, there is really no problem with oiling at the rockers on this engine. . After I noticed that the three new replacement pushrods were dry with the engine running, I switched them with three original ones from that side of the engine. The lack of oiling followed the switch yet the original pushrods were oiling where they had not been with the replacement ones. I looked up the Elgin part # on the replacements I had used and they were indeed for '56-'64 Y-Blocks not the earlier engines. The engine ran fine with the replacements but just had no oiling down the pushrod.....maybe the cup at the rocker end is shaped differently???? As I recall, the '54 rocker arms are different in some way than the later ones. I will measure the length of one of the originals. Alan

Is it me, I'm just not understanding Alan's explanation of what's happening to his engine?.. It's getting oil to the top, but it's not finding it's way down the pushrods? If that's what's happening (?) my first thought is that the little oiling ports at the pushrod end of the rockers are plugged.. yes no??

I checked the holes in the rockers and they were not plugged. The only time I was getting no oil down the pushods was when I tried to use the new replacement 56 and later 292 312 pushrods and then there was no oiling on those rockers. When I switched around the new and old original pushrods wherever I put the the new ones there was no oiling. Maybe there is some difference in the shape of the end socket between the '54/'55 pushrods and the later ones? Alan
