Went to a local track last night, averaged 10.5's won 2 of three rounds but last one I didnt have the revs up and bogged on the line. One test was 11.1 but a 1.5 reaction, with more practice I should be able to get near 9.5. Of coarse I am the 292 car!

Went back this past saturday for some test and tune and brought 4 carbs with me to try, the original carb I was running was 1.08 flat top ford (the one I got off Glenn at columbus a few years ago) The second one I tried was a holly 1850-2 3214 which I picked up somewhere and never tried it and it leaked out the accelerator pump so I never ran it. I then tried a similar one which I had run years ago which was an 1850-3 and I picked up .5 seconds and 5 MPH faster getting 71mph in the 1/8th. I then tried a couple different spacers under it and still went through the traps averaging 71.5 MPH but with different reaction times and either bogging on the line, (they added a lot of traction aid) so the last run I got the revs up more and broke it loose off the line so had a bad 60ft time but still the same at the end. Looking at the slips from the fusion I run in Columbus was about the same time in the 1/8th 71.62mph and the 1/4 run 90mph @ 15.44 seconds so I should be close to this in the 1/4. May try a gear change for next weekend and or jet changes and maybe a little more carb? Any thoughts?

Any thought on what a 4.56 gear change from a 3.50 will do for me? Other than try to break more stuff!

Without traction, make you spin a lot. You want to be going through the traps at your peak hp. How is that with the 3.50 you have now? Your 60' should be in the low 2's. If it is higher, then a gear change will probably help. I can't read your slips to see what they are. My '88 Firebird, pretty much stock, is slower and does 2.2's for the 60'. My truck is a hair faster than your vicky in the 1/8, and a lot faster than the Firebird and so far is 2.4s for 60' and it does need a shorter gear and better traction. Also keep fine tuning. There's usually more power to be found with the typical street engine.

My 60 ft's have been in the low 2's with new 10" drag radial's I hadn't been doing much spinning off the line until I tried to launch about 5 G's then it broke it loose! With the 3.50's I was just shifting to 3rd at the finish line, now I should be just shifting to 4th at the finish!

Do you have traction bars yet? Caltracs will cure the hopping and keep the car street friendly.

Charlie, I have traction bars, the hop I am talking about is the car hopping at each gear change from the bite, not wheel hop. However as you may have seen on facebook I did more damage than thought once looked over at the garage which led to the second U joint breakage. I squatted my spring perches which i had added 1/4" plate to when I installed the rear years ago and also twisted the studs on one tire. I have sice made new spring perches and had a heavy duty drive shaft made. I think one thing that led to such hardship on my drive train was the fact that I did not let air out of my tires and was running like 40lbs, should have let them down to 18-20 which would have gave my drive train some cusion in the tires wrinkling instead of hitting so hard at each launch and shift!

I did pull off a 9.7 on the one pass I made and also stretched the ends of the drive shaft so the caps were loose in there, thats why I had to have a new heavy duty shaft made. Taking after Vic! Thats Y block torque!
