"Red paint is area that the plate pushes on, i also have 5/16 washers bonded on the plate so there is also proper pressure between plate and and retaining bolts  there are 8 bolt holes in the plate. The cut out portion  of pan gasket is included right size for a valley cover."

I bought one, have not installed it yet.  I think the clamp is great. Nice kit includes hard ware and instructions.
