I don't know anything about these transmissions I've heard of people running the c4, but thats all i know about it.1 does it directly built up or does it need an adaptor if so who makes them and then 2 does the drive shaft need to be lengthened or shorten also are the rear mounts for the transmission the same or they different as well.

I have to agree with you, a tranny will make all the difference in the world. When I pulled my "slush-o-matic" out and installed the FMX as per the Hoosier's instructions, it was like I put a new motor in my 56!   If you still have the Ford-O that's great for now, but I will strongly recomend in the future if you want more performance, go to a C-4 or better yet an A.O.D. That way you can run some gears and still get some decent highway mileage. The FMX route is a little cheaper way to go, and that tranny is almost bullet proof, but the C-4 and A.O.D. have more parts readily available and are a lighter tranny. Converting to an FMX shaved a full second off my car in the quarter mile!

the transmission guy did some sort of work to make it shift hard than a usual trans and yes it does have a new torque converter i don't know the stall but ill find that out tomorrow and what he did to make it shift so sweet. yes i do know how to shift the transmission and do often for fun. I'm going to work on the compression check then go from there i do plan on taking the engine and trans out, 1 to patch any holes on the fire wall smoothing it out 2 replace engine mount and 2 to clean my dirty dirty engine/ repaint it

I always glad to hear of a "happy ending" to a very costly adventure on a old car or truck. Its very surprising what a difference can make on a good tight trans. Its like a completely new car. Now did you have the stock Fordomatic rebuilt? I'm assuming thats what you have. Were they able to put any kind of shift kit or different torque converter in to make some crisper shifts?? You mentioned heavier thicker clutches.

Be careful what you undertake!

It is very difficult to pull and replace the Y block cam in the vehicle (or upright even out of the vehicle).  The solid mushroom lifters must be held away from the cam from time of removal to reinstallation.  Best is to pull the engine and flip it over to let gravity hold the lifters away from the cam.  Also allows new cam bearings and inspection of the lifters (most recommend new lifters with the new cam).

I GOT HER BACK TODAY I must say WOW I had no idea how much power my Y Block still has in her I guess she was slipping all threw out the gears the guy “Tim” awesome guy full of knowledge and all around cool guy knows about his Y Blocks. Found out a couple things about my car he had shown me a part from the transmission and how it was pretty much beveled about 1/2" and the brass internal clutches were thinner than a sheet of paper. He was surprised I made the voyage to his shop on that trans. So as I drove back the 30min I drove pretty conservative by going the flow of traffic for all of you that don’t know what that is in California LA area when there’s not much traffic your average speed in the fast lane is 80mph and man she had so much more to give. The whole drive train felt so solid like never before, so Thursday I’m going to do a compression check and if its alright I’m just going to work on the heads and change the cam and chrome up a couple things instead of a full rebuild. So if you are in the LA area and you see a couple burn outlines it could be possible that I laid them down!
