OK guys, I am trying to find out the proper color for my 272. the motor came from a 54 f-100 the owner is going to sent me the id no's from the data plate he upgraded to a cleveland (please no comments) the engine is a ECG block and he seems to think that the truck was built in sept. of 54 so the motor might be an early 272 block. thuck was built in the twin cities plant... so my question is are all 272's painted yellow? I did paint mine red but since its still on stand I can change it. F-100 Bob

Bob, ALL 54 truck engines were RED reguardless of cubic inches. ALL 55,56,and 57 truck engines were painted YELLOW. This includes 6 cylinders and all V-8's Kevin Bigwin

Hey Kevin; Thanks for the info, I could not find out anything on color no matter where I looked ! and I have been with F-100's since 1978 but I never really took the time to research any of basics, my last truck was a black 56 with skirts and WWW's and Ive had a 53, now I'm donig a 54 Panel. thanks again guess I'll leave mine red, not that the color really mattered but at this point I'm starting to get goofy on nitpicking.
