The explorer wheels are a nice option for a 57,58. I have a set on my 58 ranchero, 7" wide, clears the fenders and disc brakes no problem. I had them powder coated due to midwest road rash. Mounted up a set of 215-65-15's. Nice low $$$ upgade. I have another style on my 57 ranchero, same tire size. These were in good shape, and free! The tire was rather close to the top a-arm with stock spindles, when I put the torino disc spindles on , I had plenty of room. Mark
thanks, Mark

Bringing up an slightly old thread here, but, I have a '98 Explorer rear end, with disc brakes, that I'm putting in a 32 roadster, land speed car. ('56 Merc, 292, Y-block FWIW)...anywho, I'm getting the tabs & brakets welded on about 40 miles away as I type this. So, I can't measure jsut yet. What wheels will fit this rear end? Will 15's fit over the calipers? I am pretty sure that the factory put on 16's or 17's, but can't find out anywhre if the 15 inch wheels that I have will fit. I am looking to put on a 4 1/2" wide wheel, maybe 5 inch at the most. Thanks, and sorry for my ignorance.

You are correct gentlemen, the Explorer does have a 4 1/2" bolt pattern on the 8.8" rear. I know for sure for I have 2002 Explorer wheels on my 56. Also, If my memory serves me correctly the 8.8" rear out of a Ranger / Explorer is the same as a 57 Ford 9" (either 52" or 54" flange to flange, not sure). I was going to install one in my 56 before I found the 9" er. I measured one up and it was the right width, only mods would have been to weld on the spring perches. Rob

Thanks, guys. I was afraid that the Explorer/Ranger being a truck (small) might have the 5X5" bolt pattern. TC

Check carefully, If I remember correctly I read in the Mustang forums that the center section is offset to 1 side on the Explorer rear. This would put the driveshaft off center in the tunnel. The width looks right for both our cars and the mustang but the offset could be a big problem if it's true

Y-Guys While ya'll are on the subject of the explorer rear diff, what is the width? and is yours disc or drum? (Will it work in an F-100 with out a lot of modifications?) For the record, all explorer's were 41/2 bolt circle. Thx Bill
