instead of spending a bag of $$ on new trim clips, I'm thinking of cleaning up the original ones and reusing them...
the only thing missing will be the rubber that surrounds the tangs that go into the body and attach the clip to it.
anybody ever done this and if so, is there any way to replicate the rubber portion of the clips?

You might give shrink tubing a try, i've used it on everything from coat hangar to garden tool handles, really cleans up home made linkage, and does have the anti-rattle covered.

How about coating them with Plastidip?
