Ive got a 1956 Courier(sedan del.), and its got the factory rear, with what I think are 3.89 gears. Its a good working rear end, thats been gone though; but Im daily driving it, with a lot of flat open highway, so Im looking for a rear with a 3.00 or similar ratio. I would really like a 57-59 pass car 9" that I could bolt in(change the center section if needed), but Im also open to other rearends too. I can weld if perches or anything need to be changed up; but I dont want to get into shorteing axle shafts or anything like that.
I live in Mckinney, TX, so the closer the better.

Look for a '57 or '58 Ford powered by a Y-block V8 and Ford-O-matic. Most all carried the 3.10:1 rear gear and are pretty well a direct fit to the '56.

I'm going to put a T-86 Overdrive in my '55 Courier with 4.09 rearend. It will bolt right in. Your 3.89 would be a good ratio for this upgrade, as well.

CoryI would think you should be able to find a replacement center section in you neck of the woods. Might have to be rebuilt OR just bite the bullet and get one that's is already built. they are out there. edit: ther is or was a guy here in Tulsa that specialized in rebuilding and did some work for me. "Danny (Cloud)'s Differential" sorry no longer have a number for him.

Your Courier should have the Dana 44 rear, as do '55-'56 T-Birds and a lot of Studebakers. Gearsets show up fairly often in the Studebaker circles. 3.31 and 3.09 are fairly common Stude ratios. I have read somewhere that later Cxxxx s-10 4 wd trucks also use Dana axles, and the gearsets are easily modified to use in early Danas. Don't know what ratios are available there.

Oh, I didn't realize that model had a Dana 44. Too bad, I just had a complete one I sold with the ratio you wanted.
