A few days ago the ex wife of my nephew stopped by, said she was selling the farm she got in the divorce, and had to get the barn cleaned out. There were a couple of engines in there, one a 292 from a truck, she couldn't remember what the other one was. Did I know anyone who would be interested in them? I knew he had a 427 core engine, so I got excited! Well, I went to look, and the "other" one was a stovebolt 6. I offered her a small amount of money, and she took it. Brought them home and unloaded them yesterday. The Y has no block casting number, one head is a C1TE and the other is 113. I had visions of a forged crank, but when I pulled the flywheel I found a notch and in the recess was no dot. I doubt if it has C1TE or C2AE rods. The block has a side breather, so it is probably an early one, not a C2AE. It has ECG rockers and the spindly early pushrods. At least it has a truck timing cover and front mount, also a truck pan. Interestingly, the water pump has a C8TE casting number, I didn't know Ford made new WP castings after '64. The distributor is the '57-'59 type with the ball bearing point plate. Anybody need anything off it? It is STUCK.

John, after all these years of working on yblocks, it is good too see that you still get excited when you find another one! By the way I still enjoy the experience myself. Heading out later in the week to search a old junk yard that I just found out about.

Are you sure the casting number is not up by the distributor covered in gunk, a dearborn block?

I've seen a couple later blocks with covers where the side breather would go but I have not yet seen one with the breather. I think I have one. One was on a C1AE block and I think the other was on a C2AE. Each time it made me double check the block numbers.

ditto on the beehive crankcase breather on a number of later blocks from 62-64. All of the ones I have disassembled like these came from trucks.

Bill: By the distributor are cast numbers/letters. There is a 5, and above it a B. Beside the 5 is a dash and an E. Doesn't really appear to be an actual casting number to me. I have someone interested in the 113 head, so when I pull it I'll look under the tappet cover for a number. Glen, to tell the truth I was more excited about the possibility of finding a 427 than the 292.

Not much to show yet Dennis except 60 yrs of dirt, grease, pack rat nest and rust. The old truck was most likely driven into the woods behind a barn over 30 yrs ago and parked. The fr axle was buried up to the spring hangers in sandy soil, so the only thing that saved it was all the grease and oil on it. The cab except for the lower A pillars and fr cab mounts is in very good condition for its age, still sporting its orginal paint inside. I am in need of a 53 or 54 grill if you have any leads on a good one let me know. I will try to talk Debbie into posting the pictures over here.

Well, I pulled the 113 head for a possible sale, so I measured the bore. It's a .060 over 272. The lack of a block casting number doesn't matter now. I also noticed the other head gasket is on backwards.
