My wife said yesterday that she wants me to "get a Mustang next and put a Y block in it!"

has anyone done that before? what do people use for motor mounts in a car like this?

This is supposed to be a factory installed Y Block?

I'm not sure. I thought 1962 was the end for the Y-Block but I could be wrong. Chuck

can't be a factory merc, spring towers have been cut and welded, and manifolds are not stock. they still had 292's in pick-ups till 64, so it could have been a dealer installed, but I doubt it. a straight axle gasser with no spring towers or late model mustang front suspention would be my choice. maybe a 62 y-block powered thunderbolt?

And supporting what Wayne has noted, decoding the “U” within the VIN indicates that this Comet originally came equipped with a 170 cubic inch six cylinder.

FWIW<,,The 292 was the base motor in trucks up to F700 size up to '64,,,I drove one hauling mail back then.
