Pete, don't know if you are aware that John Rod & Custom in Berwick, Melbourne ph 03 9797 2251 make bellhousings for the Y, an auto one to take a C4 and a manual blank one you drill to suit, but they don't have the mounting "ears" for the trucks. If you are going with side engine mounts/gearbox cross member it would be worth checking out but i'm trying to keep the original set up at this stage. The Mummert adaptor cost me $230 U.S.so I would be looking to get $250 Au for it.

Hey Pete, I am looking at putting an auto in my 56 f100 which has the 3 speed box in it. I was going for the C4 from Mummert but maybe we could arrange something if you cannot use the adaptor you have.

Regards Peter.

HeheHang loose and enjoy the ride.

I all so have a 57 Dodge Fargo coupe ute with 251 flathead six and "3 on the tree", but it was available with the option of a 4 speed and the ratios are the same as the F100, so if I'm lucky every thing else might be the same to, might be able to use the adaptor in the Fargo. Will have to do a bit more research. As a bit of interest for everybody out side of Aust. I have attached a pic. The pilot house body style continued in Aust. till 1960 and the coupe roof model was unique to Australia.

Yes I know it's a FORD forum but at least it's not a four letter word starting with "C"

Lon,

If you could solve the mount problem, you could use the passenger car bell with a hydraulic clutch system. Wouldn't matter it the pedal was on the wrong side or in the back seat of your four door Effie.

That adapter is a pretty simple item, you maybe able to fab up an adapter that will work with the 4 speed bell that will work or modify your's to work with the Mummert adapter. Most of the F100's here from 57 thru 64 came with the colume shift 3 speed. I have only seen one that had a factory installed 4 speed although it was common for the 4 speed to be swapped in from a larger truck. I forgot about the shipping cost for you guys, I have a couple of the 3 speed housings, but I don't have a clue how much it would cost to ship it. Maybe you can find one local. Good luck.

Pete, You learn somethng every day. I didn't know there was a difference between 3 and 4 speed F100 bellhousings ?? I have never seen a 3 speed F100 in Australia ??? Everyone I've seen has been a 4speed .You can't use a car bellhousing as the fork is on our drivers (RHD)side .How thick is the adaptor plate ??? Is it possible to make one from a piece of wood ,then transfer it to the correct thickness in steel or alloy ??? I know what you mean with postage .Somehow I ended up 4 door rubbers for my F100 ???

I can't remember when I ordered it if  mentioned 4 speed or not???, I know I was specific on the year. According to my original [Aussie] brochure for '60 F100 and 250 the 3 speed had been dropped and the 4 speed was the only box on those models. The '57 brochure still has the 3 speed colume as standard, I don't have 58,59 brochures so can't say what year the 3 speed was deleted. trouble is that it will cost me approx. $100.00 for postage to send it back and get the right one, might be more cost affective to try and sell this one unless someone in Aus has a 3 speed bellhousing going cheap. One of the pittfalls of different models in different countries on the other side of the planet

Guys, like I said above the 4 speed and 3 speed bell housings are different. All you need is a 3 speed truck bell housing, 57 thru 64 will work, not sure about the 54 thru 56. I see them on ebay fairly often.

Hey Pete ,

Sorry to hear it didn't fit . That truck bellhousing looks like the same as mine (58 F100 ).Do you have a sedan bellhousing ???? If using a car bellhousing ,could you fab up a gearbox crossmember ??? I'm sure you will think of a solution .Good luck .Keep us posted .
