The answer to your question is that there is no engine compartment wiring harness. It is part of the main dash harness and connects to a terminal block and voltage regulator ton the left fron fender and radiator support panel. From there the lights and generator wires are run to their components. the engine and brake wiring is also part of the main harness. You may be be able to splice a front harness onto the main harness where it was cut off. The alternative is to run a completely new main harness which is available from all the major Ford part suppliers. They arent cheap about $430 the last time iI checked.

Just be aware that 'most' pre-made wiring harnesses have GM color coding and if you want your car all original that won't work for you.

That said, I have a Painless kit in my '55 Ranchwagon and couldn't be happier.

Mike;

If you are looking for stock wiring harness replacements, check out companies like Mac's Antique Auto Parts, Bob Drake, Dennis Carpenter, etc. There is also a separate wiring harness for the headlights, horn and directional that is behind the grille and another section for the for taillights etc. If you have all old original wiring, you may as well replace all of it. They also make modern, complete wiring harnesses that have pre-wired fuse bocks and use modern, plastic coated wire that is color coded and labeled. Companies like EZ Wiring, "It's A Snap", "Ron Francis" all sell pre-made wiring harnesses. It just depends if you want to stay all original or not.
