Im looking to have a 56 ford fairlane hauled from Henderson Tex (near tyler) to jackson nj 1200 miles.Any Reccomendations????

I don't have a recommendation based upon personal experience to offer. Perhaps this may help, though.

Hemmings Motor News magazine is available at most places that sell books and magazines. The index for each monthly issue is on the last inside page in the back.

In the first column of the index, approximately the seventh heading from the top is 'Services' or 'Services Offered'. In turning to that section, go alphabetically to 'Auto transport'. In the August edition, there are 29 line ads by transporters, and on nearby pages some 8 large display ads by various carriers. -Some transporters only cover certain areas of the country, others go anywhere.

No personal experience but just some things I've heard over the years. Check references, make sure they are fully insured.

I know one person who contacted a flatbed coast to coast company and hired them to haul his pickup. Never heard how it went but they sometimes run empty and a small load mght be better than nothing.

If you have a pickup truck or other tow vehicle, you could rent a trailer and haul it yourself... or have a friend who has the time get it for you. I drove to Southern Cal. to pick up my car and bring it back to Illinois. It was an adventure.

I too had an adventure driving out to Iowa and hauling back my 37 Coupe, but I also have experience with a contract hauler who moved my 56 from Idaho to Maine. A couple of things to consider; If your Fairlane is a project car, you can save money by having the car transported by open carrier rather than enclosed. If the car is restored or in really good condition, I would have it transported enclosed. If that is what you are looking for, make sure it is a true, hard sided enclosed transport. Some carriers use a roll-up soft sided transport vehicle which doesn't help at all in bad weather. Lastly, do not use a broker. These are the companies that give you on-line quotes to try and get you hooked, then they try to find a carrier. Deal only with the carrier company and ensure you get the deal you are looking for and the pick-up & delivery dates are in writing.
