Ive been blessed with a barn find 55 F100- not committed which way to build it yet but leaning towards an old school styled build... Ive located a complete Y block and would like to know if there are any recommendations for rebuilders in the Oklahoma area... Im in OKC.

Ted Eaton is in Lorena, TX.....that's south of Waco, so I'm told. He's very active here and a master builder of Y's. Try him, if he's too far away he may know somebody closer.

Bull,

There is a guy in Ripley OK who is one of the best engine builders in USA . Even though he specializes in SOHC motors ,I am sure he could rebuild your Y block. His name is Rick Kirk (.RK Machine Ripley OK) .Rick also has a museum in Ripley and a great collection of light weight Galaxies .

There are a lot of high quality machine shops in the country. If you are just going for machining work, there are more options to pursue than if you want the machining and the assembly work done.

Put another way, every species of engine has its nuances. Knowing those idiosyncrasies can make a world of difference in the acceptability of the final engine assembly. As an example, a retired Ford mechanic just assembled a completely re-machined 312 for an acquaintance. While the retired Ford mechanic may have worked for Ford for many years as a line mechanic, his familiarity with the installation of the rear main seal in a y-block Ford is questionable. Since initial start-up and tuning, after limited road miles, he installed a replacement rear seal last week. Unfortunately, it leaks worse than the first one he installed did.

Some of the 'things' that are good to be aware of in assembling a Ford y-block are not even in the Ford repair manual. w00t

NOTE: I sent my acquaintance copies of all the information I had from Y-Block Magazine and Ted Eaton's web site before he set-out to have the replacement rear seal installed. I have reason to believe that the retired Ford mechanic did not read anything I sent before installing the second seal!

I could also recommend STK machine in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. They did my machining, assembly and engine dyno. They build everything from old tractor motors to full race FORDs. and campaign there own FORD drag racecar. They did my engine before Aluminum heads were available, but John Mummert did all the portwork etc. on the heads I sent him. They were quite familer as to the ins and outs of dropping in a 312 crank in a 292.
Ted Eaton would undoubtly be a good choice for you as to your location. It wouldn't be his first rodeo either! BigGrin

Keep asking around on this site as to what the budget, purpose and expectations are and you will get some great help.
