I picked it up about 3 years ago and it sat covered up in my utility trailer since,I need to use the trailer for yard work so today the 292 went in the garage. I put oil in the cylinders when I got it but it took a bit to get it to turn over so for a minute I thought it was stuck but it broke loose,I am going to tear it down just enough to see what it will need and see if I can get the machinist to stop by the house to check it out and start the hunt for the parts. I am going to shop around for the parts to get the best price so its going to take longer to build it but I am not in a hurry.

Looked it over and missing a few little parts,I need a coil bracket and the adjustment arm for the generator and a water pump pulley. This will give me a excuse to hit the junkyards next weekend.

Pulled a valve cover off and it was dirty but not extremely sludged up so it might have been slightly taken care of.

Looks great to me! What a diamond in the rough... Tongue

How far down are you going to go?

When you want to get a set of gaskets, google Odtimeparts out in Duluth, Minnesota. They make a pretty good engine gasket kit for the 292 and at a very good price. I have never used their composite head gaskets from the kit, but they do look pretty good. The kit is not too expensive, and if you have to tear that motor down again, work it over, and then reinstall new gaskets, you would do well going with them - don't know how tight your budget is, but you could save a few bucks.

Since the motor is unknown it will get a complete rebuild, going to see about a cam that will make more low rpm torque and that will be the extent of any modifications. I have a 57 intake and the distributor will be converted to electronic ignition, will try to find a better set of heads and not sure on what trans I will use. I have a fresh C-4 thats in it now behind the 351 but rebuilding the FMX or 67 COM might be cheaper then a adapter kit.
