On the subject of block #'s (previous posted topic), I have a question that's been itching at me.
I have a 1958 F100. From what I can tell it has been totally un-molested and is in original stock form. ...and in some forms that you don't even want orig stock!
My Glove-box plate reads F10L8K34384
If I'm reading correctly the "L" reads 272 V8 ...with a 2bbl carb
This is a shot of the intake manifold, reading ECG-9425-* The last digit I cannot tell, but assume from research that it is an "H" ?
It has the Cleveland Foundry symbol as well
I dont have a pic of the block identifiers, but you can still see the orig painted color as YELLOW and probably silver valve covers.
Anyway, all this reads as a stock '58 F100 with a 272. BUT everything I keep seeing in multiple sources (also yblockguy.com and ford-y-block.com) is that the 272 was produced thru 1957 (in trucks) and any 1958 trucks should have the 292.
Is this just an early production leftover? Anyone have any insight for me?
