What is the difference between 1955 Ford and 1955 Mercury passenger gas tanks? Is it the filler neck?
Can a 1955 Ford tank easily be modified to fit a 1954 or 1955 Mercury?
I think the 1956 Ford and Mercury tanks are identical, and has the sending unit more in the middle.
Was that to get more reliable fuel readings under acceleration Smile or when climbing a hill, or...?

What about the stainless repro tanks?

Don't know about the Mercury, but I put a '55 ford tank in my '54. The difference was the filler neck. I cut the "crook" out of the neck and used a hose to reconnect it. Had to use longer straps to bolt it in and used a dremel tool to modify the neck to accept the '54 vented cap. Pretty simple modifictions.
