I found an original Ford select-air>> all in-dash>> a/c system in my friends 45 year collection.

In researching, it appears that only a few dealers or persons checked this rare option to be installed in their ordering of a 55 Ford.

Looks like maybe 1 in every 15,000 cars or so ????

This system has every line, nut blot and clip, dashtop vents, flexible lines, underdash factory boxed assemblies, triangular engine bay heater box with clamps, copper condenser, rubber engine bay lines, cond lines etc.

Dash heater/ac control with select-air on it, cables etc.

NO engine parts, mount or compressor for the engine itself, everything else is 100% though.

I can find none advertised in past or present ads, just parts and pieces which were crazy in individual pricing.

Have no idea what to price it at, soooo the owner said start at $2200.
DROPPED PRICE TO $1700. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Ausie Bill,

That appears to be a rare customline that you have.

The owner, and my dear old friend, said that he thought it came out of a loaded to the max 55 wagon.

Yes, it would be nice for a loaded 55 CV or Conv, the owner would have pi___g rights to showing off a very rare, and for most, never seen factory option.

Warm regards to you down under,

John

Carl, Ted has a pair of the vents for this 55 . We just hauled the wagon with the air dash out of Ted's and brought it back to Illinois to be restored. Tom

Factory air was not uncommon on ’55 Fords as I’ve had several that were so equipped over the years. And it was not necessarily just the top end models for that option as the first one I had was a Customline. I’ve found that air conditioning was much more prevalent on the Texas built cars.

As Tom mentions, I did keep the pair of A/C dash vents from the ’55 Wagon that left here in March. In the event I don’t find a nicer set, I have this pair to work with. I did throw in a stock dash for the wagon so the new owners would not have to contend with the holes in the dash as they resurrect this one back to life. This particular wagon was a top end model as it had been originally equipped with the 182HP Special V8, factory air, power steering, power brakes, and power seats. No power windows though on this one. Here’s a picture of the dash before removing the vents.

Looking at these 55 dash boards reminds me of the 55 Ford Customline tudor my father bought new. One option I talked him in to buying was the deluxe radio, The deluxe radio has 2 more tubes, 8 instead of 6 I think, and the deluxe radio had chrome metal push buttons, instead of black plastic. I never saw one with factory A/C.

A/C on 55 and 56 Fords was dealer installed, it wasn't untill 1957 that it became a factory installed option.
