On my 1956 Mercury Mont 2dr hdtp,312,4bbl,A/T I have changed over to a 57 intake(9425B),installed a57 dist and a brand new Holley 390CFM carb,elec choke.Timed,running great in shop but Q re linkage...what is best/easiest way to hook up to carb?.Use original bell crank?Thanks

Since you have a FOM (MOM?) I would suggest sticking with the original bell crank for the kick down (throttle valve) linkage. The adjustment of this linkage is important because it not only controls 'passing gear' but valve body pressures which control shift harshness and band slippage.

The real problem here is that the linkage to the '56 carb is on the right side and the '57 manifold and later carb have the linkage on the left. In addition the '57 manifold does not have the mounts for the '56 linkage that if memory serves runs along the back of the manifold. Probably your best bet is to get a later model bell crank assy with kickdown rod and bolt it to your '57 manifold. It will adapt easily to the carb. Then make a link to the '56 accelerator linkage in the car. I think you could use just about any late model bell crank, they were not special for a 4 bbl.

A '56 merc would have had a teapot, which, like later carbs, had the linkage on the left side. It looks like the easy solution would be to make a link to hook the late carb to the existing bellcrank.
