Here is the number on Ebay... 160960290049

and here is the link to the listing if you need that... http://www.ebay.com/itm/160960290049?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Obviously most of us on here has already seen this listing... what probably happened to this crank? That one throw looks pretty boogered up. 3 holes drilled on the throw (I assume someone tried to balance it) and one large piece of ??? UIO

I did message the seller and got this answer: "Hello, YES,I believe this crank has been balanced before, this is why we took the pics. we did. All we have seen is the crank,so I can not tell you what this crank was balanced to. Seems to me the rods and/or pistons were quit a bit lighter. If you need to see anything else let me know I will post a picture. THANKS-RICK

LOL... is this thing even salvageable?

It does seem to have had a lot removed but from where I sit it doesn't look too bad. It is .030/.030 and it's far from the best but the price is relativly cheep. If I was close I would look closer but I don't think I would buy it and have it shipped. IT WILL NEED TO BE RE-BALANCED! From the looks of it, it will cost a bit of $ to do it.

About 7 years ago, I bought a nicely running, rebuilt312 Merc, from a reputable friend. I pulled it down to bore and offset grind it, and the crank failed the mag test. My old time machinist told me that was not the first crank he'd seen that ran ok with a crack in it, as the other worn parts didn't put enough strain on it to break it.

Needless to say, it was a good crank that went in my F code motor. I'd want to see the mag test, and talk to the shop, not the seller.

Hmmm...

Definitely polished.

Is there such a thing as over chamfering the oil holes on the mains or rod throws? Are they chamfered too much on this crank? Unsure

Where are you located? I can't really dig in the garage much now but I should have one somewhere. Any that I have came out of complete engines I stripped. Not checked for anything! Chuck
