The Dec. 2012 issue of Hemmings Classic car, has a fairly interesting article on the properties of vacuum. It appears that one of the illistrations is likely taken off of a pre 1957 Ford distributor. One thing pointed out is that a pressure reading that is lower than atmosphere, when applied to flow testing of cylinder heads for instance, is more correctly referred to as a "depression." I found the article fairly interesting..
