Now Dan, that's the best one yet , hop it up and stick it in a 55,56 or 57 scrub chevy and have a KILLER time and yes...stir the pot and have the coolest y-block in the block um? city, county, heck that could be the whole state , I'd be all for it. If my honey would let me do just one more car that would be my project for sure .

X2 what John said about it being a 272. Should have alot of the good parts already. G heads & 1.5 rockers is a good start. If you cant find a 50's Ford, put it in one of those Tri-5 Chebys & stir the pot a bit.

I'm sticking with the 272 size. All Ys in '57 got G heads, except the blown 312.

My guess would be that it is a 292 because of the G heads. Not actualy sure what heads the 272 had. G heads are one of the best stock heads out there. Welcome to the Y club. Nothing else sounds like a strong Y block.

Hallelujah another one saved! And what a great girlfriend you have! Since you already have it all cleaned up why not build a running stand and start checking it out that way. Pretty simple to do and you could chase down some issues that way and learn about the engine along the way. Several example are on this site if you do a search. It's possible it won't need a major rebuild. thanks for signing on and welcome!

Hi John! Welcome to the site. These Y Blocks can definately get in your blood. I started on them about 22 years ago with a 56 F-100. Stock 272 with a T-98 manual. The motor didn't stay stock. Bored it all the way out to fit stock 312 pistons, upgraded the intake, carb and dizzy added headers and power ram assist steering. I've got a 56 Customline Victoria now with a built 292, but I'm also building a stroked and blown Y-block. I'm not sure I want to put it in my Customline, so like you, I'm looking for a willing body to graft it into. The guys on this site are great...Always willing to help in any way than can. Good luck with your build and keep us posted! Rono

Hello John. Its amazing how the "protective coating" keeps old Fords looking new. If you visit the links page on this forum you will find some great links to about anything you want to do to your Y. Make sure you check out John Mummerts page. He provides our hobby with a great selection of aftermarket parts. Some that never existed before. If you want put a post in the classified forum. You might just come up with a vehicle to fit your engine. Never hesitate to ask any question about the Y. Someone here probably knows the answer. Welcome to the site! Chuck Please put your city and state in your tagline. It helps to have a general idea where people live. I would hate to offer parts from here in New Hampshire and find out the other end is in California!
Y's guys rule! Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

Welcome to the site, that looks like a good find and the price was right. You can always find something to put a hot y block in.

John: Welcome here. It appears you have a correct 272-57 engine there. Heads, exhaust manifolds & carb look correct. 272 & 292 engines used a 2 Bbl carb. Only 312s were 4 Bbl. & used what is loosely called the "B" intake. You've come to the right place for help..good luck with you're project.

Hi John, Welcome to the site! My first vehicle was a 51' F-1 and my second was a 50' F-1 I bought my first Y-block this June, I wanted to have a Y-block in my truck when I was in high school in the mid 90s. My dad had small blocks, big blocks and flatheads in his cars, so I always wanted something unique. Unfortunately, I had to leave the old girl sit while I was in college and then the flood of 08' in SE Iowa totaled her out R.I.P. It was sold as a flood vehicle... However, I just bought a 53' Mainline in June and my first Y- Block a week after! Since then, the first one is almost all assembled and ready to be put in the car and I have become addicted to everything Y-block (4 months later I own 3 292s). This site is great, I read and reread old threads for an hour or so every morning before I go to work. The history of the motor and the people that own/owned them are truly fascinating, and you won't find a better bunch of guys anywhere else! The wealth of knowledge on this site is amazing, as are the people that share it with us!
