Guess what guys I'm comin' !

Planning a trip in July to California, just the missus and I for nearly a month so need a few things to do when we arrive Tongue

I need to come up with a bit of an itineary for the travel agent. This is sort of a rough plan so far. Should be based most of the time in Anaheim as I have a mate that lives in Garden Grove. So Disneyland. Trip down to San Diego. If and when I get confident with driving I'd like to drive from LA up to San Fransico, the 101 and stay for a few nights. And of course Vegas is a must and while there then trip out to the canyon.

So what else is a must in the eyes of a local?

Day stuff I'd like to go to Santa Monica pier, Venice beach, oohh And LOTS of car stuff.. NHRA museum, Pamona and Longbeach swap meets.. car shows etc etc..

And the big one ! I'd like to get another car while over there.. If someone could kindly find me a nice 56 Vicky .. Crownie.. Hell even a nice ol' 50 - 60's truck BigGrin

When I was in San Francisco a couple of years ago I talked the wife and her sister and husband (not car people) into going to South San Francisco and visiting Brizio's Hot Rod shop. There was only one guy working the counter, it was Saturday, but everyone that came in was invited to go into the shop area.  What a great experience that was! The vehicles all had the owner's name on it, Reggie Jackson, Eric Clapton the others I didn't recognize. The cars all had info on them as to what was to be done, wiring, chop, pancake cut, section, etc. Saw a blown chrome flathead a Rousch small block Ford that had been poked and stroked but no Y's.

All in all  very, very enjoyable even to the women and my brother in law was just knocked out.

Just a suggestion.

If you decide to head to SF and feel confident in your car, I'd take highway 1 instead of 101, much nicer drive. They had some slides and it's closed now, but hopefully by July it'll be open again.

Well you'll miss the Pomona Swap Meet(June 3rd--Aug.12th) but if your in Pomona stop by So-Cal Speed Shop. Also on July 27th,Hot Rod Magazine will have a cruise-in in El Segundo, usually has a large turnout due to summer. Also check out www.SoCalCarCulture.com,the home page has photos from car shows around SoCal and at the top left there's a box marked (Events) that gives you month to month cruise dates,as we get closer to July those cruise dates will increase in number!!The Long Beach Swap Meet is on Sunday--July 8th if that helps. There's loads of Speed and Rod Shops around Anaheim such as Chip Foose shop in Huntington Beach,Surf City Garage(Amazing collection of Muscle cars/Hotrods),The 401K Club in Anaheim etc.So pick a few and enjoy the time, and good luck in Las Vegas(you might not have enough for the '56 Vicky after that---LOL) KID
