Guess it was a "steady rest", I just hadn't seen one before. I suppose in '55 Ford figured they needed to really secure all that massive 160+ HP those 272's were putting out.

Still learning, thanks

Mike, You probably were looking at the "Steady Rest" that was on '55 and '56 cars. Ford did away with them in '57. Reason you probably never seen one before is that 'most' people don't put them back on after the engine was replaced (Hey, if Ford thinks it isn't needed why put it back on?w00t:w00tSmile.

Hi Y guys

Was trolling through an old salvage yard located way out in the boonies when we came upon a 56 or 57 (can't remember which now) Ford car that had what looked to be a motor mount or support that came out from under the pulley on the harmonic balancer was trianguler in shpe and bolted to the radiater core support.

Everything else looked normal (of what was left of it) including the usual motor mounts.  This thing looked to be factory or very professionally done. No Rube Goldberg business about it.

Now I haven't seen a lot , but I've never seen or heard of this before.

No, it was not from a truck as there was a 59 F-100 with the front truck mount nearby. Not even close.

Anyone have observations or thoughts on this set up????????????????

Just Wondering

Mike, sure it wasnt standard 55 56 sedan front engine support?Smile
