Dan: As you found out, the TS switch is totally different. 1958 upper column parts are nearly all different, because Ford did away with the old system of drilling the steering shaft for the horn feed. It all comes up the side of the column from 1958 on. If the switch has the horn contact ring on top & is all in good shape, you can probably resell it. It's needed for instance if converting a 1957 to a (also different) 1958 recirculating ball steering box...

In the Obsolete Ford parts catalog 14486 is a "turn signal switch wire less switch". Probably for a 58 Ford.

I picked up a switch assy on ebay for my 56 Fairlane. Glad I didn't need it after I got inside, it doesn't fit. It is brand new in a FoMoCo box with B8E-14486-A. Can anyone identify it or does anyone need it?
