Yes, apparently Customline Victorias were a late intro in 1956. For the record, when Curtis Turner won the Southern 500 at Darlington in 56 (then the longest race of the NASCAR season) he was driving a Dual 4 Barrel version, & he won by two laps over the second place car, a Chrylser 300B !  (info courtesy of Richard Gaston of Mississippi, a former race mechanic at the time)

According to research done by a friend of mine who has what's probably the lowest mileage ,nicest 56 Customline Victoria in the country,towards the later part of the year Ford realized they had made a lot more Vic bodies than they would have Fairlane trim for,so they just started putting them out with left over Customline trim.They have a bit less flashy upholstery and interior than a Fairlane,and the standard Y-Block was a 272 instead of the 292,although 292's and 312's were available in them.

Basically, we cut out the inside of a regular 56 dash leaving an edge wide enough to attach a homemade aluminum plate with cutouts to match a set of TPI gauges. The aluminum was engine turned. All gauges are electronic, and small led's were used for turn signals, hi-beam and over-speed indicators. Ganged wiring plugs were used so that the dash plate could be removed in one piece without having to detach the individual gauges. The dash I cut was from a different car thus the contrasting color to the main dash panel. I plan to bring the engine turning across the whole dash just covering the flat area where the radio and knobs are and having the top of the dash upholstered. She's a work in progress, but then we all know they are never finished. Right?

1956 Customline Victoria hardtop coupe production is listed as 33130 cars in my reference guide.  I also had one of these early on and have many fond memories of this one as it's the first car I actually built for dragstrip duty.

Sweet ride.  Customline victorias must be rare.  There was one about 2 miles from me a couple years ago, the guy was on the fence about selling it, it was supposed to be his daughter's car, but she wasn't interested in an old car.  It's no longer in his attached garage, but he has another garage behind the house.  I've never been in that garage and you can't see into it from the road.  He does have a '55 Fairlane vicky out front, it's been for sale a long time.  He has developed health problems that prevent his working on cars anymore.
