I run a 28x12:50's on my black '57 custom sedan.
I used to run a set of 28x10.50's which have about a 9" foot print, which I would recommend for yours, as they should fit in the fenderwheel with some adjustment.
The 9" wide ought to fix your traction issue.
To make them still spin a little, just don't warm them up so much in the burnout box.
Your car may not have wheel hop now, but add some rigid and sticky drag radials and it may really show up. The bias ply ET Steets have a wrinkle sidewall and absorb the energy so it won't hop even when the tires stick.
