Billy. Glad you were able to make it by for the visit. It’s always a treat when a Y-Blocker drops by. As a FYI, Sunday’s temperature was officially 106°F and Monday went 103°F which makes the number of days over 100°F here at the shop 88 without knowing what the Tuesday (yesterday) temperature bumped to. It was hot yesterday but failed to look at the gauge in the shop so I'll have to look it up. But cooler weather is now in the forecast so maybe the days ‘over 100’ are coming to an end. With Billy’s and Randy Gummelt’s assistance, Chuck’s engine was put on the dyno and we went through the normal camshaft and ring seating procedure before taking a break for lunch. Once back from lunch, the valve train was inspected and then the engine was started up for some dyno pulls. Ignition timing was set at 34° total for the first pull and when attempting to add a couple of degrees of timing for the second pull, I noticed that the damper ring had already slipped. Having had the foresight to add damper marks to the belt pulley itself, I reset the timing for 36° total and then made another pull. At the top of the second pull, the damper ring came off which pretty well ended that dyno session for the day. But the numbers were good with what looks to be the engine wanting at least another degree or two of total timing. The engine was also just a tad on the rich side but nothing a couple of jet numbers leaner would not have fixed. Once the damper is replaced, then there will be some more testing with the current ‘draw though’ blower setup before eventually ending up with Chuck’s ‘blow though’ setup.
